Belarus Free Theatre

From August 2011

Fuel present the first performances of a new show in development by the internationally acclaimed Belarus Free Theatre in their first visit to the Fringe.

Surely this would provide me with what I have been looking for these past three weeks, my festival nadir, the show with a rating of one star or (... oh please ...) less. With no discernible plot & some fairly average acting this certainly was a 'show in development' and for the first 50 minutes I truly thought that my search was over. There's only so many tales of political & sexual oppression in Minsk that you can take in one lunchtime. The performance wasn't aided by the speed at which English subtitles had to be flashed up to keep up with the frenetic pace of the Belarusian dialogue.

But in the last 10 minutes or so the cast really turned it round with each member speaking about what the future held for each of them. Really quite moving.

Belarus Free Theatre, Pleasance Courtyard, until 29th August
