Government Inspector

From July 2011

Sometimes I can't remember the names of people.

I was at the Young Vic a few days ago to see David Harrower's version of Gogol's comic masterpiece Government Inspector.

After I'd found my seat I was taking a look around the auditorium when a familiar looking woman approached me. I thought 'friend or someone I used to work with or (possibly) a friend who I also used to work with, no the only person in that category is my wife, but I definitely know this woman, I'd better say hello'. I started to open my mouth to speak and just as I did she flashed me a smile at which point I realised that she wasn't a friend or someone I used to work with (or my wife) because she was actually TV actor Caroline Catz.

I'd like to think that she made a similar mistake thinking 'friend or someone I was in The Bill with or (possibly) a friend who I was also in The Bill with, no because the only person in that category is my husband, I'd better flash him a smile'. But she probably just thought 'sex case'.

I hope she enjoyed Government Inspector; not a patch on Doc Martin but good all the same.
